What to Pack - Travel Activities

Lets face it, travel is exciting but sometimes the journey can be tedious. It’s a good idea for kids and adults alike to bring some items along for the drive, flight, or however your journey will take place. My criteria are that they are small and packable, not expensive or a high sentimental value (things may get lost or damaged), and will not make a big mess on the go. Here are some of my favorite kid and parent approved choices!

Fidget Ball - (or any fidgets that don’t make a bunch of noise) - This is a fave with my kids, you push and move the different colors around inside the ball and try to match them back up.

Dress Up Set - My daughter is currently very into paper dolls and similar activities. She spotted this in store and SHHHH but it will be in her travel bag for our next trip.

Mad Libs - My kids have recently discovered Mad Libs. There happen to be a million variations on these, with just about any character you can think of. Classic Mad Libs would also be fun for teens and adults.

Travel Journal - Sure a plain notebook can suffice, but I like these prompts for kiddos to help create a tangible recap of a family trip. You know I’m all about those memories! Excited to give these a try!

Imagine Ink Books/Non Messy Coloring - One of my criteria for what we bring along is mess factor. I love Imagine Ink or any coloring without messy leaky markers. Like with Mad Libs, these come in just about any character you can think of.

WikkiStix - Another item for the less mess category. WikkiStix are easy to take along and keep hands busy for awhile.

Card Games - We have this Disney game where you have to be the first to find a certain object in your cards - Flower pot, Bicycle, etc. Another game you could play on the road, in the air, on the rails is the classic Uno! Lots of character themed sets you could get to match your trip too!

Puzzle Books/Log Books/Activity Books - I bought this rollercoaster log book for my 10 year old thrill seeker. Tweens and teens might be beyond the coloring and sticker stages, so I would recommend a puzzle book, or something like this to pair with where you’re headed. National Geographic has great road trip or location fact books for kids that you could also pair with your trip.

Stickers and Sticker Books - Sometimes little ones just want to stick stickers to things. There are so many options out there, I would just make sure it’s packable size and if they are younger, keep an eye on where they are sticking the stickers - not that I’m speaking from experience or anything!

What do you bring along for the ride?
